Breaking down human eye in four stages - charcoal

I do...learn...and quite often begin again, creating work in charcoal, oil, ink and paper processes. Each day is practice and action, trial and error to achieve a particular end; something that balances work reality with magic. The challenges are endless.

My teaching method relies on classical characteristics of building form using simple shapes. I help students break down objects by associating subject matter with things we know - circle, square, rectangle, triangle, or sphere, cone, cube, pyramid. Together we look for ways to simplify form and see the essence of what is before us. Over time we work big shapes to reveal smaller detail, exploring ideas of line, shape, value and proportion to help students better understand spacial relationships in nature or studio.

Classes are available through my Woodstock home studio and the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art in Marietta GA. I work as a staff docent with the education department at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville GA. I've taught as a resident artist in area schools, and had the pleasure of instructing elementary, middle and high school specialty camps. These opportunities allow me to share what I've come to realize through daily drawing and painting, those thoughts about the process of composition, line, color, form, shape, value and space. It's ever changing -

Thank you for your attention. Please contact me with questions and enjoy the day. I look forward to hearing from you.
